Sarah Halfpenny Events

Case Study: Trenport Investments

How we gained national coverage from the opening of a bridge...

It all starts with a brief

We were bought in to plan, manage and deliver the inaugural Bridge Opening Ceremony at Peters Village, Kent. The event was to be held on what was effectively a building site. Due to the complexities of building the event venue in such unique surroundings we were required to research, select and manage all suppliers, oversee the event build and manage every aspect of its delivery.

Throughout the management of the project, I worked alongside the PA to the Chief Executive. We had regular catch ups to discuss the progress on the event in addition to face to face meetings with the event champion and key stakeholders.

Key objectives

The client wanted to deliver an event which provided the opportunity for special guests to have exclusive access to Peters Village site and be first on the Bridge. They also wanted to bring together the key contractors, specialists and industry experts from within the professional and local community to view the project. The key objectives that were set out within the event brief were to:

  • Officially open the bridge
  • Celebrate the end of project and showcase their work
  • Bring key stakeholders together to share the celebration and to say thank you
  • Communicate to the local community of the progress being made on-site

Services that we provided

As part of this project, we engaged in the following work streams

Supplier Management

On-Site Delivery

“Sarah was very well-organised and thoughtful in all aspects leading up to the event, paying close attention to detail and therefore ensuring the day itself went off smoothly”
Tamara Sternberg, Trenport Investments Limited

The overall solution

The event was held in a large marquee which was positioned so guests could view the bridge. Upon arrival guests were greeted and had the opportunity to view the exhibition and network. Keynote presentations were delivered by the host company and key stakeholders. Guests were then taken to the bridge for the formal cutting of the ribbon. Upon their return, guests were treated to a canape reception with entertainment provided by a jazz trio.

The finished article!

The event was captured by local BBC and ITV news teams. Local press also covered the story as well as local community groups that had an interest. Guest feedback was very positive, all the event objectives were met and above all the client was very pleased with its delivery and the impact it had. Here are some stats:

  • 130 guests attened
  • 4 news broadcasts
  • Reached audience of 1.1 million
  • 600 canapes served
  • 200 glasses of champagne
  • 1 bridge now open
